Pioneering the badge of Danger Rock. From 2002—on, the thundering line up solidified with songwriter Jonathon Hodges (from Turmoil) and searing vocalist Rich Lippold as they called on some friends and fellow shredders, Jonathan Pushik (also from Turmoil), and guitarist Matt Hanemann (from Metroplex / The Sound Of Failure).

After recording some new demos at Gradwell, the Deadly signed on with Pluto Records and headed into Skylight Studios with Vince Ratti (Hot Cross, Bury Your Dead, Minor Times, Circa Survive) to record their debut full-length.

The Wolves Are Here Again is an all out assault on the senses. Energy and aggression focused and stylized in a way that no one else could achieve.

-------------------------------------

It’s inevitable. You can’t mention The Deadly or their fantastic new album, The Wolves Are Here Again, without the name Turmoil worming its way into the conversation. Make all the concerted effort you want to focus on how The Deadly is an entirely different entity and how The Wolves… possesses more full-on, arrogant noisy groove in a single song than Turmoil’s entire catalog; it won’t matter because 2/5 of The Deadly make up 2/5 of one of metalcore’s pioneers and they’ve reformed and Decibel is conversing with the guitarist from both bands. “Ahh, whatever. It doesn’t matter,” comes the nonchalant reply from Jon Hodges, regarding my valiant attempts to keep the focus on the more rockin’ of the two loves of his life. “I had a lot of rock-based stuff that sounded like a lot of Gravity Records stuff. I wanted to use those riffs and I couldn’t have ever used them in Turmoil because it was so metal-based. I always wanted to try playing something that was a bit more rooted in rock than metal and found a couple kids in Philly [vocalist Rich Lippold, guitarist Matt Hanemann and Turmoil drummer Jon Pushnik] who kinda knew what I was going for with the old Gravity Records sound. I was basically setting out to do something that was a little lighter and less moshy that wouldn’t necessarily put us on shows with the same bands we’ve always played with.”
